China Peak Ski Resort
Located in the Sierra National Forest on the
shores of Huntington Lake,
China Peak is a favorite wilderness playground for much of central California. China Peak is a
great mid-sized ski resort and provides the best skiing in California south of Mammoth Mountain.
It has an almost 1,700-foot vertical drop, gets plenty of snow and offers terrain suited to all ability
levels of both skiers and riders, including three terrain parks and a halfpipe. Six chairlifts
and three surface lifts service over 430 acres, and 40 plus trails including three freestyle parks.

Badger Pass Ski Area
Unpretentious, friendly and affordable, Badger Pass offers a uniquely stress-free atmosphere.
Located in Yosemite National Park,
Badger Pass featuring one of the best sundecks in the Sierra, guests can watch children learn to ski
while enjoying the California sunshine. Open mid-December through mid-March, weather permitting.
A free shuttle offers daily transportation to Badger Pass from Yosemite Valley to make it easier to get to

Cross Country Skiing
Information regarding marked cross-country trails and snowmobiling in the
Sierra National Forest
is available by calling (559) 297-0706. Rent skis, poles or snowshoes in the Grant Grove Market, (559) 335-5500,
for a half or full day. Park Rangers may also offer snowshoe nature walks, naturalist and evening
programs during this time. Montecito Sequoia XC Ski and Winter Sports Center, (559) 565-3388, offers 85
kilometers of groomed trails; rentals and lessons for all levels are offered daily.
Wolverton Recreation Area in the uncrowded beauty of Sequoia National Park
offers cross-country skiing, snow play and sledding with nearby accommodations and dining at the

Sierra Winter Sports
Winter is a beautiful time to explore the
Sierra National Forest. There are many
forms of winter recreation. They include: snowmobiling, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, alpine skiing,
sledding, dog sledding, snow camping, all terrain vehicles and just playing in the snow.

Snow Parks
The California Department of Parks and Recreation operates 5 SNO-PARK sites within the
Sierra National Forest that provide snow-cleared
parking lots with sanitation facilities and access to snow play areas, cross-country ski and snowmobile
trails. These sites are Balsam Meadows, Tamarack, Coyote, Eastwood, and
Huntington Lake. A SNO-PARK permit is required
for each vehicle parked at a SNO-PARK site from November 1 through May 30 of each year – check website
