Water Recreation

Fresno County is home to the largest number of lakes in California as well as the Kings & San Joaquin River. With the pleasant year round climate this permits outdoor enthusiasts and casual sightseers to enjoy a wealth of water recreation opportunities including boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, tubing, water-skiing and white water rafting.

Fresno County
Shaver Lake, Pine Flat Lake, Huntington Lake, Kings River, and Cricket Hollow Park/Reedley Beach all offer boating and other water recreation options.

Huntington Lake
This scenic high Sierra reservoir is enjoyed by visitors each summer for swimming, fishing, windsurfing, water skiing, and sailing. Huntington Lake is widely know for its perfect sailing conditions and hosts annual sailing regattas.

Millerton Lake
Occupying 8,000 acres along the San Joaquin River, recreation includes boating, sailing, swimming, fishing, and water-skiing.

Pine Flat Lake
This lake is less than an hour east of Fresno in the Sierra and Sequoia National Forests. The scenic and rugged Kings River Canyon is the location of this beautiful park where fishing, boating, and water skiing are all available.

Shaver Lake
Enjoy the shimmering waters of this alpine lake just 60 miles east of Fresno. Shaver Lake is a popular lake for water sports activities. Water skiing, jet skis and windsurfing are popular activities at this mountain lake. Canoe and Kayak enthusiasts will find many out of the way coves and miles of shoreline to explore.

Shaver Lake has a large variety of marine life and some of the best water skiing in California. Sierra Marina provides boat and watercraft rentals. As a full service marina they also carry fishing licenses, fishing tackle, marine supplies and more.

Sierra National Forest
Whatever your boating choice, the Sierra National Forest provides numerous opportunities for canoeing, water skiing, sailing, fishing, windsurfing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and house boating. Locations include Courtright/ Wishon Reservoirs, Edison/ Florence Reservoirs, Huntington Lake, and Shaver Lake.

San Joaquin River Parkway
